Control vs. Treatment
This figure shows the baseline and endline scores for grade 2 students separately for students in control group and intervention group schools. The control group had no change in their scores from baseline to endline. Control school students had endline scores of 5points, for a net gain of 5 points over the baseline. Intervention group students had endline scores of 14points for an apparent gain of 14 points over the baseline. However, this apparent gain is not all due to the effect of the intervention.
Expected Difference
The net gain for control school students occurred without any intervention. Absent an intervention, we would expect the same change for treatment school students.
Expected Gain for Treatment
On this page the expected change in ORF, without taking into account the effect of the reading intervention for treatment school students, is shown. If the treatment group had not been exposed to the intervention, their expected gain would have beenbe an additional 5wpm, the same as the control group. Since this loss would result in a below zero, which is not possible, zero is shown in the figure.
Intervention Impact
The net impact of the intervention was 9 (p-value=0.002), based on a difference in difference analysis. The estimated impact met conventional levels of statistical significance (p≤.05).
